Sri Maha Bodhi Anuradhapura’s religious & cultural life is woven around the Sri Maha Bodhi tree. Planted from a cutting of the very tree under which Buddha received his enlightenment at Gaya, this 2000-year old, fig tree is central to the Buddhist faith in the island.

Abhayagiri Dagoba The Abhayagiri Dagoba was one of the largest & important monastic institutes of its time. At 100 metres high it was one of the greatest structures of the ancient world, matched in size only by the Pyramids of Giza. While the restored complex stands 15 metres shorter than its original size, it still retains the grandeur of a bygone time.
